They can't fill classes. And when they can, they can't retain guys. They know that most if you will be hired at mainlines over the next several years.
They need larger planes so they can carry the same ASM's with fewer pilots needed... Because they won't have them. They also know you will eventually figure out that you had them by the short hairs; which is why they're trying to get new long term contracts now while they can. Why else would management want new contracts when they are already profitable and have signed contracts.
Being threatened with being shut down? Yeah sure, to be replaced by whom? Nobody is hiring and retaining regional pilots. They're leaving as fast as they're hired. Who cares if classes are full... Your seniority lists are shrinking.
The eagle guys took a stand; they could have sold others out but didn't. If EVERYBODY says no to concessions then management has nowhere else to go. Grow up and do what's right; vote no. .
What do you want next? World peace???
Eagle pilot group voted in concession not too long ago. Their MEC voted the TA down which everyone commends but if the vote went out to the pilots, their pilot group would also be split. If anything, eagle is too big to shut down tomorrow. PSA would be like a fart in the wind if we were to shut down tomorrow. There's plenty of guys to fill our flying. Air whiskey's contract is up in 2015, PDT wouldn't mind a new fleet, and Mesa, republic, and Skywest would say yes in a heartbeat. Regionals is a dying model which will dwindle down on its own. Promoting that the pilots can take a stand at regional level to make a difference is silly. I hoped our MEC would've said no but their stance is to let the pilot group decide, which I can assure you more than half the pilots at eagle wished their MEC did the same. It makes me laugh when some of the eagle guys act all high and mighty that their MEC said no when in secret, they're upset but hey, might as well look good out of this bad situation. And I have many close friends at eagle so I respect their group as much as ours but let's face the reality. By the way I voted no to PSA TA. Wasn't easy decision but I felt like it was the right thing to do. But I understand 100% why someone will vote yes.
