If you can get to NRT on Delta, JAL flies from there non-stop to CAN - but you'll want to get the ticket via China Eastern (CZ) or China Eastern (MU) as a code share. I had a 3-day DH ANC-SEA-NRT-CAN and the scheduled NRT-CAN leg was in coach for $2100 on JAL. MU was selling a code-share ticket on the same airplane for $650.
If you use trip manager, check out the Oct 2013 fares. NRT-CAN on JL is $1800 while MU is $1200 and CZ is $800. Same airplane for all 3 tickets (JL metal, which is good if you're still wondering about Chinese de-ice procedures based on last winter). If you don't use trip manager, I would recommend it.
The instructions about the train/subway to the China hotel are spot on. It's very easy, cheap and probably the best option other than a Parklane limo ride from the normal provider.
