Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I believe they just mix and match on the schedules. You could start of the trip flying for one mainline partner and have another carrier's flying in between. Usually the base that is assigned will dictate which mainline flights you will be doing. Do not be surprised to see schedules with a bit of both. Hope this helps.
