I think the smaller bases still have one if the old school feel. LA certainly does. I know most of the guys I fly with and like them all. In fact, it's not uncommon to see a bunch of the guys laying over at the same location. I never experienced that in the ATL.
It's been my experience that a smaller base and/or small fleet type does have that affect. Couple that if maybe the fleet type is being reduced, or is feeling the brunt of some crappy schedules, etc.
Large bases with massive fleets seem to have the collateral effect of anonymity for lack of a better word. Fly with a guy, don't seem him around for possible a year or longer.
