I think they are still pretty picky. A good friend of mine interviewed two weeks ago who has 5 yrs of 121 experience and he's a good pilot and didn't get the job.
Usually current 121 pilots who don't get hired didn't prepare well enough. Or of they sense some sort of attitude.
Regardless of your background, play the game. Study, get some sim practice if you think you need it, and don't be cocky.
This applies to any interview, anywhere...if the interviewer is pushing your buttons he's (probably) not being a tool, he just wants to see how you react. Calmly de-escalate while keeping your dignity. They don't want to hire pilots who will tend to get in fist fights with drunk pax.
