Default FDX Expands in Sweden and Spain

FedEx Express expands reach in Sweden and Spain

FedEx Express has launched domestic shipping services in Sweden, as part of a programme of expansion across Europe.

The US integrator added five local stations in Sweden last year, and says its new domestic service demonstrates its increased presence in the region.

Sweden is the ninth country in Europe and the third in the Nordics in which FedEx has introduced a domestic service.

Finland will be next, launching domestic services later this month.

FedEx said the new service launch came on the back of growing customer demand in Sweden, where the company has added 30 vehicles to its fleet.

Last year FedEx invested in new locations in Gothenburg, Norrks and Ljungby.

Patrick Stienlet, managing director for operations in the Benelux countries, Nordics and Baltics, said customers in Sweden would now be able to gain a more complete service.

Now they are getting just one carrier for all their shipping needs: one invoice, one online solution and free FedEx packaging, he explained

Sweden is a key market for us as its the economic powerhouse of Scandinavia.

We're always trying to give our customers in Sweden and throughout the world the best possible service and highest degree of flexibility.

FedEx Express Europe

FedEx Express launched new domestic services in Switzerland last year, having already introduced the service into Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Denmark and the Netherlands in previous years.

The company states that its domestic services in Europe can deliver shipments to 70% of the country's GDP within one business day.

FedEx Express has also been working to expand its presence in north-east Spain with the opening of a new station in Girona and expansion of routes in Tarragona.

The company said the Catalonian region was one of the most important in Spain for business income.

Girona saw its exports surpass EUR 4bn in 2012, while exports in Tarragona grew 4% last year, reaching EUR 7.4bn.

With the expansion, businesses in the region will brave better connections to the FedEx global network, accessing 90% of global GDP in one or two business days.

Ian Silverton, senior operations manager at FedEx Express Spain and Portugal, said: The Catalan business community has focused on research and innovation by creating a thriving business community with a strong entrepreneurial spirit.

For this reason we chose Girona and Tarragona as key cities for our job-creating investments in Catalonia
