Have to jumpseat frequently on UAL since us lowly SA5Xs can rarely get a seat in the back! As time goes on since the merger, seems like the issues with agents listing for the jumpseat at the gate have decreased. Almost always there is someone at the gate that can sort it out if there is a problem. That said, I do appreciate the guys that make the walk. Has saved my butt a couple of times. I do it too and have saved some butts myself. Long and the short of it, get there early and be pleasant and you shouldn't have a problem at all.
