There's never going to be a shortage of pilots at mainline and a lot of guys will get stuck at the regionals for one reason or another. Some places are far better than others.
I tend to agree with this. But it mostly only matters for the beginner. After a few to several years of seniority, it often makes more sense to stay where you are, than laterally move even to a better regional.
AND... even for the beginner, the idea that one can pick the better regional, can be fallacious. i.e. Comair, or Independence.
So the Skywest of today, can end up stagnating tomorrow. No one wants to be a 10 year regional FO no matter how great the contract is.
