Some pilots from the military fail to realize that not everyone was born with perfect vision. At the time I made the civilian or military choice they were not allowing any LASIK at all. I had a full ride ROTC scholarship, but if I couldnt fly what was the point. Now 17years later after doing single pilot night freight thru midwest lake effect winters and over a decade flying the line and being a line checkairman, I fell like I've put in a fair share of my dues. But the worst entitlement attitudes I deal with are mostly former military. Now its a small bunch, please dont think I'm saying its all military pilots, but I dont get that same level of attitude from even the riddle wonders. Once everyone gets to the line it doesnt matter what you did in your former life, you are now just an airline FO like everyone else. Some just get to go play with multi million dollar fighters on weekends.(jealous) Everyone has the skills to get to this point so whats the difference. As far as the whole put your country first, that may be the case but a lot of my Air Force buddies all just wanted a chance to "go mach 2 with their hair on fire" It wasnt a patriotic choice, it was a dream to fly fighters, or a financial decision if they couldnt afford flight training/college on their own. I think you'll find that the first people getting called just had internal recs that have more pull than others.
