Ironically, after a few years of doing it that way (leaving #1 running), SWA just made the wise decision to adopt the policy you're advocating for safety. We now start the APU (#3 - love it), on every taxi in, shut them both down at the gate, and once ground power and air are hooked up, we shut down the APU. Much safer and more efficient.

However, I'm curious as to your new sick leave policy. We are in negotiations, and are hearing rumors of possible company-wanted changes to our policy.
