I agree, I failed 2 classes early on in college and it brought my average down a lot. I learned a lot from it and it made me a better student in the long-run. However I'm very much concerned about how the failures and "overall GPA" would be viewed by a major interview panel. It would certainly be frustrating to see that requirement gone for some.
On another note, yes maybe staying at 9E would have been better haha. I was west coast and applied for west coast regionals when I was low-time. Had I known what was up today I would have applied at Pinnacle/Mesaba/Compass because I could potentially be at mainline now. But I didn't have that crystal ball and now like you I'm competing with people that simply made a lucky regional choice.
A couple of weeks ago I talked directly to one of the guys doing the interviews and grading the results he said that their results have shown that guys with a 2.5 -3.0 have actually done better than the guys with GPA above a 3.5 I don't think a 2.5 or something around that would disqualify anybody.
