Really? It's been that way since the beginning of commercial aviation and appears to work fairly well at every (other) airline out there. FedEx for example would have a devil of a time trying to position non-commuting crewmembers to the various out stations at the beginning of the work week. In fact, I doubt if they could do it at all, and as a result would have to either position some of them early, thereby increasing days away from home, or changing how their business is done. I suspect it would be even worse for UPS because as I remember, SDF isn't exactly ORD or ATL when it comes to available deadhead flight opportunities.

As for those pilots who choose to live out of domicile and have to work their time and energy in order to position themselves for their flights, I say it's their choice and you are off base in your comment about them screwing you. But that's just my opinion.
