I have had a wonderful long career with a major 121 carrier. I have three sons, none of which I encouraged to seek a career in aviation. The really good jobs are rare with plenty of competition for them. Pay is very low in starting positions, just can't make the numbers work for a resonable life style. I would recommend you get a degree in engineering, structural, electrical or aquatic. Then I would pursue an masters in Information Technology. You could write your own ticket at that point, make money to buy your own airplane, and have the time to enjoy flying and a good lifestyle. Best of luck!
