You pick at the end of training. You'll have access to SWOL by then. Usually it seems like your bid hardly matters though unless you're the most senior person in the class. They're going to stick you where they want you. A lot of people are able to transfer to a different domicile by the end of sim though. It's not the end of the world if you don't get what you want right away (unless you live in SEA).

It depends on the size of the class but typically they will have two groups for sim. The first group will start the monday after the systems test. The 2nd group will start 4 or 5 days later. I was in group 2 for initial training and got a week off between ground school and sim. I was in group 1 for transition and only got two days off between ground school and sim. You'll know your sim schedule by about half way through ground school.

Bring a headset for sim. You won't need it for ground school or matrix so if you're planning on going home before sim you don't necessarily need to bring it right away. You'll need it by FTD. Some instructors are nice and don't make you wear it. Others will make you wear it the whole time.
