So if you get the 73N NYC in class and three months later an AE posts with M88 vacancies, you can bid it. One thing to consider is that changing categories during probation exposes you to another jeopardy event.

DLpilot is correct. All entry level pilots incur a 12 month category freeze in accordance with Section 22 G.1. The "freebie", as you refer to it, no longer exists.
