As far as I know, the online profile is used for reference by the hiring board. (Ie. contact information, to view your basic flight time qualifications)

A recommending pilot will submit your resume, and letter of recommendation via email to the Chief Pilot, and/or when asked to, the Chief Pilot's Office Manager.
