Most regionals have east coast bases near you but would be an insane pay cut. You're better off "bumming" in the c-17 to build time. If that's not putting food on the table you can volunteer for tdys overseas doing no flying stuff but not the best idea since you need to rack up flight time. Pick up the tricare reserve select health care as well, it's better premiums than even most major airlines offer.
The more I think about this option the better I like it. The other option that I am considering (when I have enough hours) would be a fractional jet company. I don't know if the 7 on 8 off lifestyle is better than that of a regional jet pilot put it sure does pay more. I'm hoping that my heavy time might open a door for me.
