ALPA is a function of who you elect to your MEC. Remember that. How many of us have previous union experience? How many JetBlue pilots have previous ALPA experience?
Voting in ALPA gives the JetBlue pilot group an opportunity to have a say in Jetblues future. An experienced, union savy membership will allow the JetBlue pilot group to negotiate effectively with management on issues important to Jetblue pilots. Gone are the days of national agendas. ALPAs role, today, is to support the pilots achieve their goals. Keep in mind NONE of JetBlue management will have the tenure that a pilot will. Modern day robber barons take their money and go and JetBlue managemt is no different.
ALPA at a regional is also different from ALPA at a major. Sadly the economic relationship between a regional and a major is substantially different to a major and it's pilot group. Keep this in mind.
