My wife and I use her Health Insurance so there's no need to opt out, just don't opt in. I do recommend getting SkyWest’s Short Term Disability Insurance. It’s inexpensive and takes the average of your highest 3 grossing months over the last 12 and pays you 60%. If you’re based in CA then no need since its state law that you pay into CA Disability which pays 55%. It’s also the ONLY Disability Insurance in the nation that pays men for "family Bonding" after you have a child. That’s right; have a kid, take FMLA and CA will pay you 55% of your gross for 6 weeks. I was based in FAT when my second child was born and during my time based in CA I paid the state about $300 in premiums but they paid me over $6,000 in "Family Bonding." And people wonder why the state is practically bankrupt. lol
