Unfortunately there was a negotiating "partner" involved in the UPA that had a short-sighted strategy involving large aircraft (cough, "jumbos," cough), pay bands, and the SLI.
It would have been funny had the long-term potential pitfall not been so obvious. At least the 777X won't see the light of day prior to the opening of the next contract so we can
hopefully deal with this.
