Default Airline Financials and Statistics

I’ve been working on some tools that allow people to see financials and statistics that airlines have been reporting to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS). These numbers are self reported and I don’t believe are audited closely so they may include some errors. The Airline Data project by MIT is similar. The cool thing is they allow pilots to look into the financial health and operational reliability of some airlines that are not publicly traded such as Virgin America. This resource is still in Beta mode... so it’s in testing. If you see any other metrics that might be useful I can probably produce them through what is currently there, ie Revenue per Employee etc.

Some of the numbers include

Employee Numbers over time including numbers of Pilots and Management.
Balance sheet History
Revenue and Expenses
Direct and Indirect Operating Costs
Salaries
Expense numbers and Statistics for a specific Fleet over time
- Includes Block time, Seat Miles, % Load factor, and CPSM etc.

The following link takes you to a directory that allows pilots to start exploring the financials/statistics of most of the large US based airlines. Just click on the buttons to drill deeper into the data. On some reports it might take as low as three-four levels deep.

PS. Most of the 2013 numbers are totals of the first two quarters so that year is slightly skewed for now. Happy Holidays.
