My apologies for any confusion my post caused. In the example I used above, the number of flows and SSP pilots are correct. Delta could, and I'm sure would, fill those positions which were held back with off the street newhires. So the final count for a month of 50 with everyone possible held back could be:
20 Compass flows held back
9 XJ flows held back
7 SSP pilots
43 off the street new hires
79 pilots added to the seniority list, but only 50 in class for that month due to the hold backs.
Contractually, the flow pilots that are held back will have their Delta seniority and date of employment calculated and maintained as if they had been in the new hire class which Delta initially offered them.
