I'm signed up for one of the job fairs early next year that's out of town at a fairly nice (not cheap) hotel. Being on a budget, I thought I'd ask if a lot of you stay off-site and drive in for the job fairs, or do you typically stay at the host-hotel (does it make it that much easier)?

Unless you have free room and board and access to a car, stay at the hotel. If anything, it's a great networking opportunity. And yes, it does make the job fair that much easier.
You can always try to spit costs with someone as well.
