Computer bidding just was not working out for us as agreed. The latest 'gun to our head' contract allowed NWA to do zero open time (ZOT) at the time of bidding. This turned PBS into 100% trip assignments regardless of seniority. Requesting min sked (even if senior) had little affect as trips were inserted into schedules, resulting in fewer days off. Our LOA which allowed PBS also allowed ALPA to give notice to the company that we could suspend it....which we did, hopefully in an effort to get the company to address our concerns. Failing that we will go back to the painfull paper scheduling in June. This will require increased pilot staffing as well as company manpower to build the scheds and man the phones for our 5 minute bidding windows. Hey it's one of the few tools we have left in our tool box
By the way, the A-320 old technology? I guess 'fly by wire' is old, but the next step will have to be fly by teleportation..........Love the responsive bus......
It would be so easy, even mgt agrees......if they did away with the "zero" open time, bidding and assigning of trips would be so much easier for both parties........Except mgt would give something up for nothing.....so they wont do it, even if it benefits them.
By the way, there has been only one month that I saw zero trips on the open board after bidding. That was the first month the new contract was in force.
After schedule completion bidding, there were 2 pages of open trips. those that did'nt get thier min schedules, made min schedules. Surprise, surprise. That's what I did.
