I doubt SWA is scared of the legacies. Them good old Texas boys don't scare easily. They have cash, are making record profit, and can always file bankruptcy like all the real airlines did and skip out on their debt. It's a beautiful thing.
Record profits? Bumped by including the former Air Trans operation? AA mentioned record profits but on a percentage basis it was lower than it had been in the past.
The legacies used to trail SW's profit margins. For 2013, and maybe 2012, DL and US profit margins are close to ahead with UA/AA(2013) fairly close.
JB's numbers(profit margins) trail everyone else. Hardly a sign of future strength.
