Does anybody see a problem?
Like??? See when you take a carrier from the 1930's and merge it with a carrier from the 1980's there will ALWAYS be these large differences in LOS its simple math Woody! Now for the pilot at the younger carrier who has the expectation of faster upgrades based on the relative age of his/her airline, should this be any less important than it is for pilots at the older carriers??

Now had UAL merged with AAA your argument would be somewhat valid however it was AWA that was the only carrier willing to toss out the life line. AWA pilots should not at all be penalized for being employed at a younger carrier. This is an extremely weak argument on your part.

WD at AWA
