I've spent the last few weeks collecting data on the typical résumé of military guys getting hired at DAL and UAL right now. Info was gathered from people I know/met personally or networked with as well as dozens of pilots who PM 'd me in response to questions i posted here on APC (to include a half dozen guys that were hired at both). While there are exceptions, here's the typical profile:

Mil recent (last 6 months) or soon to be retired:
High powered military resumes (commanders or directors of ops, PME complete, lots of IP/SEFE/NATOPS, formal training IP (UPT, FTU or RAG), masters degrees, OGV and/or Safety backgrounds, etc. all the military "square fillers" are getting the calls now.

Separating military:
IP time in multiple airframes, SEFE/NATOPS, IP in a formal training environment, patch/Top Gun or OGV/Safety backgrounds. Typical military career progression to include PME.

Guard/Reserve:
IP, SEFE/NATOPS, and currently Part 121.

Right now UAL seems to have a slight lean toward <35 yr old guys. DAL seems to have a slight preference for retirees.

As time goes on, I 'm sure the gene pool will thin out a bit. For now, it appears that the same qualifications that would lead to a successful military career are what these two airlines are looking for.

As I said, I've found some exceptions...but they are outliers.

Hope this helps prospective mil guys build expectations. Congrats and thank you to those new hires who sent me your backgrounds.
