It does seem that way. It's taken me about 28 months to go from 300 hours to about 1200.

Time didn't become 'easier' to get until I recently hit 1000 hours, then all of the time building jobs that people used to get at like 300-500 hours were suddenly willing to hire me (sky diving, traffic watch, aerial survey). The only problem was that I had finally worked my way up to a point where I was starting to get multi students, and I need multi time. So I couldn't really leave my current job to go to one of those jobs where I build hours fast, but will have no chance of setting foot in a multi engine. So I figure it will another 9-10 months of CFIing for me. (Don't get me wrong, I actually enjoy the instructing, I will miss the flying and teaching itself, but I CANNOT wait until my livelihood doesn't depend on it anymore).

The other crappy part is that these bottomfeeding employers realize that people need time now more than ever, and they aren't willing to pay more than $7-$8/load to fly a plane that is just waiting to fall apart, or more much more than $12-15/hour to a CFI that has almost 1000 hours of dual given, or they will 'let' me tow gliders for free!
