Deahhead, Way, way back in the day... Ron Allen (the less gifted RA) refused to hire and the 727 SO position was flogged worse than the skinny guy in the slave galley. Guys were assigned trips enroute, in the jetway, at the bottom of the airstairs as they tried to escape and in the employee parking lot. I do not exaggerate (although I'm the parking lot thing didn't happen too much.) The bow wave these guys amassed was huge and eventually screwed away by ALPA in a side letter/agreement. (Bow wave was where your time went over 70hrs.) There might be a very few guys left that experienced that but I would guess most are retired or dead.
Back in the day, I was at Roscoe's, the restaurant over at the MAT. We were just starting to furlough. This LCA is telling me and my soon to be furloughed FO how he was assigned a green slip and he had to take it because he made the mistake of answering his phone.
I'm thinking to myself, you didn't try very hard, you wanted it and were just using answering your phone as an excuse.
It's the same with jet bridge assignments. I've gotten out of multiple jet bridge assignments. All you have to say is either you don't have child care or you are fatigued. You can come up with other good reasons. However, I wouldn't use I just had drink
If a guy takes it, he can complain all he wants. But, deep down, he really wanted it.
