I think it is time for a complete overhaul of Union tactics.
During regulated times the government helped the market control the supply of pilots by limiting competition. We are in a NEW environment today with deregulation.
Our Main effort should be to control the supply of pilots.
We can get new contracts all day long, BUT you will always have a new startup with young pilots willing to work for less to build time.(ie. Virgin America, Skybuss, various regionals etc.)These companies will undercut your union contracts and force you into Bk again. And the cycle continues. Our unions need to stop putting Band-Aids on broken legs, and solve the real problem. Then we will have some real leverage to work with in contract negotiations.
