I think the 28 number was for FAR 117, but aren't 14 or more of those guys already hired and in class recently? We've been hearing about a bid coming but like most of those bids in the last few years, they're slow to actually be published because marketing's plans are always a moving target. There've also been some unexpected retirements that weren't included in the planning, so there may be some captain upgrade slots in this next bid.

Overall though, the company didn't wind up keeping some 76s that were previously thought to be a possibility; there were lower yields and more competition on a few routes that pressured financial results, and the company wisely decided to limit further growth for the time being. As the 76s go to the desert those crews are transitioning to the 330, so a lot of 330 guys are moving down the monthly bid list as some of the senior 76 guys come over. Not sure, but I think the net increase in our fleet will be one Airbus for next year, and ultimately the plan is for just 7 of the 76s to remain.

For 2014, and aside from Beijing, the company appears to be entering a planned phase of slower growth and focusing on maturing its exiting routes and ensuring profitability. The next significant growth may not occur until the 321s start coming in late 2016 or early 17, although there may be some occasional hiring during the interim.

For those of you who really want to work for Hawaiian, keep watching and applying; it's a well run company and an excellent place to work. Now, if we can just avoid being bought out and merged.....
