Worried? Maybe a little. DL adding seats and potentially lowering yields affects the price of the stock I own and our annual bonus. Otoh, AS has added block hours to counter the competition.
Defensive? Definitely. I get sick and tired of DL pilots acting like this code share has been a one way street. How many widebody pilot jobs have been "created" in Seattle, because of the code share. Until someone pencils out the numbers, all of this back and forth is just mental masturbation.

Delta has decided it makes more financial sense to build Seattle organically on their own instead of purchasing Alaska.
There might be more consolidation but it is highly likely though that we won't see anymore mega mergers.
Perhaps a Hawaiian/Delta deal as that would make much more strategic and economic sense.
In that vein, it is also likely that Alaska will be bought and the likely candidate would appear to be SWA.
Good luck with that integration.
I respond to buzzpat saying Alaska is "expensive" and suddenly I don't get it? Hmmm, ok. I know there are numerous reasons why a merger will or won't happen. Isn't that the whole point of this entertaining banter?

I think Delta did PDX to Hawaii, too.
Does Alaska do that one now, as well?

Did it.
Then taxied out one day to see the billboard at the end of the runway with an Eskimo plane announcing service the day we ended it, or rather handed it over.
We all know there have been some routes that DL/NW used to fly that Alaska now flies. Maybe DL/NW was losing money and decided to abandon the route. Maybe DL decided it would be better to use the 757s on a different route and then realized a 737 etops program wasn't worth it. Nobody knows what went through your management's mind. I'm not convinced if/when the DL/AS code share ends that DL will suddenly jump back into SAN-Hawaii or ANC-Hawaii. If the code share ended tomorrow, I have a feeling your SEA-intercontinental flights would stop filling up and the growth of that hub would be jeoprodized. The Seattle hub might continue to exist, but the growth wouldn't be as turnkey. By the way, does your PWA even consider SEA a hub?
AS has an approximate 20% cost advantage over DL. Is DL able to yield 20% more? Time will tell.
