gotta blame it on something, gotta blame it on something, blame it on the RAIN...

I'm still kinda mad about this ... this was the turning point of "image over quality" in the music business.
A couple of lipsync'n print models voiced by moonlighting Disney vocalists beat Emily Saliers and Amy Ray out of their "Best New Artist" Grammy. Might as well have given the Grammy to "Simba, The Lion King" because, damn, his songs sound just like Elton John.
Tried to find a good period clip from the day on Letterman or Leno, but you can tell Emily is scared to death in that format. Remember, these girls had been playing the streetcorners around Little Five Points and Decatur not 18 months before. Amy is the honey badger of live performance ... she don't care. So, aside from the fact this whole song is E and open A ... at least Emily put some cool rifs on it.
Oh, and if your looking for a really yummy breakfast, try the Candler Park location of the Flying Biscuit Cafe. Emily always loved to cook and used to have some great after parties. Her hobby gave birth to that restaurant.
Anyway, the Grammy for "Best Folk Artist" should be renamed the "Jackson Brown award for best obscure performance that nobody outside of a small, but enthusiastic, fan base gets."
Not that I'm completely against image over substance ... I just don't want it in my ears.
