There is a difference:
Scenario 1) An airline was acquired and its equipment and employees integrated.
Scenarios 2) An airline was in negotiations and was given a "pay cuts for jobs at mainline," offer.
The second sets are damaging precedent. It's selling jobs and thereby lowering standards.
