Would that angst have anything to do with strangling the golden goose for every golden egg? Overplaying their hand and then being confronted with what happened on 9-11 after their companies where in a weakened position? Retires lost their DB retirements because of what unions extracted from their companies. You have to allow for sustainability when you negotiate a contract. Unions and management did not allow for anything negative and paid the price. What happened to the legacy airlines was their own fault. SWA did their own thing and the others failed to adjust.

We are now facing some difficulties of our own and hopefully we will adjust. I for one won't be blaming another airline if we don't correct things.
