When I was a ramper I was wary of the coworkers with the clean, nice looking uniforms. My experience was that those were the people who attempted to do as little as possible. This was typically a correct hypothesis.
On that note, I feel that a lack of quality of appearance is not a 'regional' or 'major' issue, but a reflection of society as a whole. 'Anything goes' with no standard of public appearance/conduct has become all too commonplace.
I spent time working
on the ground at a major airline, and some regionals stood out as being worse than others. Skin tight pants, and shirts that looked like washed and put away wet. Even saw freight pilots with non uniform pants and shoes. Major airlines looked much better, and foreign airlines topped.
There were some freight companies that looked pretty decent. Atlas was usually well groomed. The big U wore their uniforms professionally.
