Sort of reminds me of the United Captain, who after 38 years of seniority, the vast majority of which was very, very senior flying, finally retired. The company threw him a going-away party and a large number of pilots, as well as many management types attended. After the presentations and food were done, he got up to the microphone and thanked everyone he'd flown with for keeping him out of trouble, he thanked United Airlines for a very stable and profitable career, and then he paused for a second before he shared his final thoughts with the group. He said: "I've had a great run here, but I leave with a heavy heart, because I've left 18 minutes in my SICK BANK. With that, he walked off the stage to gigantic applause from the pilots and utter silence from the management guys. Classic.
I'd bet if he could have gotten paid for those sick hours, he'd have actually flown his trips for his last year or two. Just saying.
