The really sad part is that Delta ALPA effectively negotiates for Delta flight attendants...creating a de facto "me too" situation which (IMO) decreases the pot of money available to fund pilot contract improvements.
The company has to cost out everything the pilots negotiate, and apply it on some level to the flight attendants. And, as we saw in the last contract, ALPA gave away a significant amount of our profit sharing--down to the non-union level...in return for very modest pay improvements which were in turn offset by major productivity concessions. A joke, really.
ALPA is better than no union...but the non-union work groups will mooch off of your dues dollars, and the company will do everything it can to drive a wedge between union pilots and everyone else.
From a jetblue pilot standpoint ALPA is a necessary evil. We have absolutely zero say in every aspect of our professional lives.
