At DL, the policy is to hide this number from us and if anything happens, the company can be called for the number if needed. Gate agents are told not to brief us on the pax count, although from my experience most do. We used to get the infant numbers but do not anymore.
Personally, I hate this as I feel that we should have an accurate count as to how many we have aboard in case something happens. Can see it now, I ditch somewhere and a rescuer comes up and asks how many pax on board? My answer is to wait until my cell dries out so I can make a phone call.

How would you give SOB's to ATC in an Emergency? That and fuel remaining is what they ask for? Thats the question you need to ask your company.
