You have to decide what is the minimum rest you need to be safe. I have delayed my pickup many times for various reasons. Never had Delta say a word about it. Do what you need to be rested. You are not however going to be charged with a FAR violation if you decide 8 hours in the room is sufficient.
Even the most strict pilot pushing FAR "interpretation" can't possibly hang its hat on the concept of walking in a hotel room, face planting on the floor and getting up exactly 8 hours later in the same clothes, not getting ready, not going to the bathroom or anything, as an "uninterrupted sleep opportunity".
That is insane and indefensible. Period.
