There is hope for commuting on the 757 in EWR as a line holder. On reserve you can aggressive pick up as well as the long call option. Most of the junior trips are commutable on both ends. I was a bottom line holder on the 756 in EWR last summer and held nothing but commutable trips. The EWR 76T is a completely different animal. The problem is the domestic flying out of LGA and JFK. Mostly not commutable.
