Considering 99 percent of the US has done away with pensions in favor of boosting executive pay and dividends to shareholders, how can the military not follow suit? I fully expect to see the pension system dissolved and instead it will be all TSP/TSP Match. Healthcare will lag behind, it will still probably be fully covered until youre out or in the reserves, at which point, I do agree TRS premiums will go up.

What did America do to herself? She already did it, basically like 20-30 years ago. The military is just the last man standing.
This is spot on, it's unfortunate and the wrong thing to do, but it's the unfortunate reality. We stood by while unions crumbled and companies restructured to wipe out pensions. We thought those unions were the "bad guy" and that people just needed to get a "better job" if they were complaining about the benefits or pay. Just look at the airline industry and what has transpired in our little section of the US economy. Eventually they are going to come for the military benefits and unfortunately the majority of the public that has had their benefits cut, pay lowered, standard of living decreased, will not have much sympathy. I agree this is wrong, but events seem to have been set in motion for it...
