I think a logical solution would be to combine tracking and scheduling into one department. Section off a corner of the occ and plant the merged operation there where they can coordinate with dispatch, mx, weather etc.
I have never understood why they are separated or why tracking doesn't know if I am a reg/rsv, going into vacation, a ** day or another conflicted trip or any other number of things that requires scheduling or the pilot to check--and then request a change to a reroute.
While we are at it lets give crew accommodations a desk there too so we can eliminate another phone call and twenty minutes on hold.
Maybe there is a good reason why all these operations need to be separate entities scattered around the campus, but I can't think of any. Having one umbrella would simplify things on a good day, really help during bad irops and probably save some money by reducing overlapping functions. Just some thoughts from a line pilots point of view.
