The remaining 757's will get new interiors with 199 seats. Retirements will be over the next 3 years. The variable is a possible charter contract. If that comes through then 10 additional 757's will get heavy checks and remain in service. Retirements spaced over 36 months. Remaining aircraft will be retired between 2020 and 2024.
Yes you have, and others have said that as well, in addition to other potential scenarios. Still though, 70 five sevens plus a few others is a huge number. That's almost the entire 739 order. While the 320 fleet in general is getting a refresh, no one seems to know if that will apply to 100% of them or if some of the older ones will still retire soon. And are we really planning on keeping 100% of the MD88s? Its interesting indeed that this year will see about 30 MD90's get the glass (assuming its not delayed any further) but no MD88s. That's not necessarilly the canary in the coal mine by any means, but does seem to point to the company at least agressively keeping their options open to cull 88's and older 320's. Even a flinch in that direction would make the A321 order mostly replacements and no growth.

Its all written on a dry erase board and I get that, but significant displacements could still happen depending on the bowling pins the company is juggling that are still very much in the air. I'm still not ready to embrace the likelyhood of significant actual growth other than the one off 717 up-fleeting within existing network capacity. Long term, however, there isn't a power point anywhere that will convince me we are actually growing until after we've actually grown.
