2. Can I get $5/pilot? It's not much, and it will be quite the deal for just $5, I promise--I'll pass out some ALPA flyers on the beach and answer any questions any passer byes may have!
P.S. If you don't support my suggestions for giving me your $5 (which by the way I'm trying to figure out how to get out of you without your consent) then how about stepping up instead of b!tc#ing about it...bring a blender and some tequila and you'll find a place under the tent down here on the beach!
P.S.S. About ready to go up to one of those DPA guys in the crew room and ask for my card back...the cause is over...blown...stretched out to the point that it's just annoying white noise. Thanks for trying.
P.S.S. It's not a thankless job. I thank my reps every time I email them (maybe 3 times now?). Plus, a few pages back I recall seeing a lot of people saying thanks to a poster who worked Pro Standards. So the evidence says there is plenty of thanks given to ALPA volunteers.
To answer your questions:
1. Yes. In most cases FPL was paid out to the pilots working the hotel lobbies. It was such a "good deal" that most guys wouldn't do it for more than 2 days in a row. Your follow-on question also gets a yes - you can get in on "that gig." Finding guys to come in, even on FPL, is an incredibly difficult task. Contact DPN or P2P and I'm sure those guys can set you up with as much ALPA work as you can handle.
2. You will likely be getting another dues refund in the near future, in addition to your dues reduction to 1.90%, so I'd say yes you will be getting at least $5/pilot back in your pocket. My point about Purple's number of 60k was not to diminish the value of each and every dollar we pay in dues, but to point out that he was attempting to sensationalize his point by using big numbers - that are really fairly reasonable when you consider the scope of work being done for such a large organization. We can agree to disagree. Your treasurer is always available to field these ?'s if you think somebody is fleecing you (as Purple outrageously was suggesting.)
PS - I'm sure we'd have a great time pouring margaritas. I'll bring the blender and the tequila
PSS - I totally agree. TC really needs to fold up his tent. I'd ask him to pull me off the phone/email list, but it provides me comic relief a few times a week as he tells me once again how "close" we are to having the vote, if I would only just renew my card.
PSSS - I agree again. The DALPA dudes by-and-large are a good group, looking out for our best interests. I personally reached a burnout point (despite what a good deal it is

) and had to take a step back from it all. To the guys still cranking out the work, thanks!
