A Guadalupe Holdings scenario should only be used as an emergency measure to prevent a relative seniority grab.

I really, really hope there is no DL/JB merger. While it may have been a more likely possibility a few years ago, it is less likely now. Even if it were to happen, the resulting divesture would be devistating to the combined seniority list. Merging with a young group with low longevity would in that case mean the vast majority of any "surplus" would be PMDL pilots, who would also enjoy the rest of their career in complete stagation while narrowbody captains with only a few years kept sliding on over and 2013 JB new hires kept piling on top of in some cases 2001 DL pilots. You cannot possibly expect the DL pilots to roll over and accept that.

As it stands though, if JB merges with an ALPA group, it is probably more likely to be UAL or Alaska. Not sure about Alaska, but don't hold your breath waiting for UALPA to tolerate a relative integration grab either. They've had 2001 double furloughs that are just now coming back to junior FO positions. Letting 2013 JB pilots in on top of them for the rest of their careers is something that is not likely to happen IMO.

As for your other reasons for wanting to unionize, I get that completely and agree with you.
I don't think this pilot group is after merger language to help it GAIN something. I think they are after ALPA in order to have a real representative in such a situation. B6 management says they would rather grow on their own than merge. Great. So has every other airline that eventually merged. We don't know what the situation will look like in 5 or 10 years, but we do know it will be different. Pilots need protection for when the stuff hits the fan.
