I have heard two things:
1. You won't get an interview without one?
2. It's a third party vender that selects applicants and AA only sees your app/recs once selected to interview?
Which is it?
From what I've heard, second hand, an internal rec is not required.
I think as all three majors start hiring for retirements it's going to get a lot easier to get an interview. It will probably be a lot better than when I was hired at AWA a couple years after 9/11. I had several thousand 121 PIC, a four year, multiple internal recs, and it still took me 2 years of hounding and multiple airline job fairs to get an interview with American West-Freudian slip. Every guy/gal in my class had lots of PIC, 121 or military, and a four-year. Good look with your job hunting, in my opinion your timing is good.
