I have an important personal commitment 4 months after my class date where I will need a long weekend off (Fri-Sun Minimum). Missing the commitment is not an option. Should I:
(a.) Tell management on day one of class
(b.) Wait and see what schedule I am awarded before mentioning it.

I'd hate to have you online not able to devote 100% of your attention to flying safely. That would be a violation of 117. You'd be unfit for duty. Best to take the weekend off for your own well being.
Btw... A visit to the chief pilot isn't necessary. Just call crew services.
