Upgrades and flow. New hires look at that way more than a strong contract, just look at who is still finding new hires in the current market (PSA, Compass, Mesa). 90% of the guys who go to regionals do so to do their time and move on, not make a career of their garbage regional.
Edit: forgot to mention Skywest, they seem to have the best of both worlds.
Short sighted my friend, there is going to be plenty of jobs for everyone. The industry is only 6 months into the shortage, it hasn't even gotten serious yet and won't for a few more years. If now is not the time to fix things at the regional, then when? When you hold the cards, you have to make your play.
