Let us not forget the unbelievable flexibility it gives the company having Pilots live in every city FedEx serves.
They often have to Field Draft pilots to cover for their extrememly tightly optimized scheduling.
When a crew goes Illegal or Sick in the field, more often than not Crew skeds must field draft a local living pilot because they can't legally assgin or cover the trip with a reserve. Millions of revenue per year are saved.
Company never acknowledege this fact openly, but many ACP's do "Off the Record"..........
